Seeking Experienced Beekeepers

Seeking Experienced Commercial Beekeepers; One with at least 5 years commercial beekeeping experience and one with at least 2 years. We are a family-owned migratory beekeeping operation currently running 1500 hives and expanding to 2500. We produce quality artisan raw honey, quality eucalypt honey and offer spring pollination services. We are proud to be one of the few Certified Organic apiary operations running both conventional and Certified Organic hives.

With the arrival of varroa mite in Victoria last season our daily operations have become more demanding. Varroa brings a new challenge to beekeeping and in order to keep our hives healthy we must be proactive in how we manage this new pest. To date we have successfully managed our varroa numbers exclusively with organic treatments and cultural practices and hope to be able to continue this approach.

The job is based at Marraweeney VIC however our apiaries migrate throughout Victoria and southern NSW, including many quite remote forest areas.

The person:

·        Must have Commercial Beekeeping Experience.
Role 1: Experienced Skilled Beekeeper – minimum 5 years commercial beekeeping experience.
Role 2: Skilled Beekeeper - minimum 2 years commercial beekeeping experience.

  • Hard-working hands-on lateral thinker.

  • Fit and strong for lifting honey boxes whilst working outdoors in summer heat.

  • Have a love for the great outdoors and be happy to camp out and work away at the bees for a few days at a time.

  • Have an eye for detail and interest in the workings within the hive.

  • Ability to carry out tasks in a team and to work autonomously.

  • Safely handle and administer varroa treatments utilising correct PPE

  • Willingness to learn new skills, obtain licences, certificates or registrations as necessary for the role.

  • Flexibility and adaptability, including the ability to manage a changing workload and changing priorities.

  • An ability to manage a high and varied workload, work under pressure, organise priorities, meet deadlines and take initiative.

  • Not mind getting stung as it will happen.

  • Be Punctual.

  • Able to perform basic administrative tasks relevant to business, beekeeping and factory operations.

  • Demonstrate ability to operate, monitor, maintain and repair equipment as required will be advantageous.

Essentials:

  • Commercial Beekeeping Experience.

  • Maintenance of a current car driver licence.

  • Heavy Rigid Truck licence preferred


The role:

  • Assist with day-to-day beekeeping operations, with the aim to be independent in most tasks including monitoring for and treating for Varroa, supering hives and harvesting honey, hive inspections and requeening hives.

  • When appropriate, use own initiative to achieve effective outcomes.

  • Undertake all stages of the honey extraction process, including loading, operating and monitoring automated and non-automated machinery and cleaning equipment.

  • Assemble beehive components and other similar tasks as required.

  • Load and Move bees independently (HR or HC truck licence)

  • Due to the nature and seasonality of the business a flexible approach to taking leave is required.

Applicants must not be allergic to bees. While stings can be largely avoided it is not possible to avoid them completely.

Annuello Flora & Fauna Reserve

November 13th, 2023.

It's been a very busy few months for us, travelling roughly six hours out to the bees in the Annuello Flora & Fauna Reserve and back with honey every week.

The Mallee eucalypts; White Mallee, Giant Angular Mallee and just now, the Christmas Mallee have all produced an excellent bud set and plentiful pollen and nectar for the bees to forage.

Our spring honey is now available for purchase online and at our wonderful stockists around the country.

We hope you enjoy our new selection of RAW honey varieties and we hope to add a few more over the coming weeks.

New Season Honey - Better Late than Never!

March 7th, 2023.

We are very excited to have the first of our New Season honey varieties available - better late than never!

We've had our most challenging season yet, with rain, rain and more rain. In season's past we've had honey harvested in Spring, through until late Autumn, but this season we didn't have anything harvested until February! It has simply been too cold and wet for the trees to yeild and the bees to forage beyond thier daily needs.

The race is now on to harvest as much as we can while the trees are yelding nectar and the bees are busy producing honey which here in Victoria could continue until late in April. Not long!

We hope you enjoy our new selection of RAW honey varieties and we hope to add a few more over the coming weeks.
